Guyana

The Journey Home Project

The Journey Home project took me to Guyana, South America with modern dancer and choreographer, Kurt Douglas. He's originally from Guyana and was creating a new dance piece, inspired by the culture and movement of a people that he is a part of. In order to be able to continue his study of the culture after our trip, Kurt brought me along as his photographer to capture the movement, surroundings, and character of the people and place. He then used the photos to choreograph his new work titled Speak. Silence in the avalanche (for the people of Guyana). Some of the photos in this gallery shared the stage with Kurt when he premiered the work in Virginia and then performed it again in Germany.

Watch Kurt’s inspired dance choreography!
